Question:
No Bowel movement for 5 days?

Hi Everyone: I have been reading the post and WOW what a weekend. Listen - the problem is - I have not had a bowel movement in 5 days. I tried the eminas, the milk of magnesia, the laxatives, the whole milk the hot water thing, the fiber thing, the liquids but I still cannot use it. I called my doc and he said to use th MOM all night - if nothing by this mornig come into the office. I do realize that being pregnant can cause weird things to happen to your body - but I am starting to think that I may have an intestinal blockage or maybe a shutdown. Can someone please give me some insight - this is really worrying my and I am hurting reallybad. I have not even been able to pass gas. I burp every now and then but NOTHING else. All inout would be greatly appreciated. Anita    — anitawilson (posted on January 22, 2001)

Anita, I have a friend who had an intestinal blockage and still had a BM up to the night before her repair surgery, so I don't think NOT having one is an indication of bowel obstruction (although maybe it is- I am no Doctor!). Her biggest symptoms was stomach/intestinal pain and vomiting. If my food intake has been low, I don't go for 3-4 days easily, AND I do get constipated fairly regularly. I pray all is well- let us know what happens:)

Anita, I suffer from constipation alot. I use Duccalox Suppositories. The results are usuallu in 30-60 minutes. It will help move gas too. Since you're pregnant this is a nonsystemic safe way to go. My doc says citricel everyday too, but I haven't been doing that. Hope things work their way out, Lou Ann

Hi there!! I had exactly the same problem shortly following my WLS. Here is what my surgeon told me to do: Double my present intake of water and take 2 Senekot "S" tablets. The "S" means stool-softener. There are two different kinds...be sure to get the SENEKOT S.... You can take up to 6 tablets per day...but I recommend that you take only 2 the first time...we don't want to start the other annoying problem =;) Hugs, Sharon in Arizona
