Question:
OK, my frustration is getting the best of me.

I have been following my postop diet from BTC to the letter, I'm still on prueed foods. I have not lost anything for a couple of weeks. Anyway, last night I ate a whole small chili from Wendys (pureed). I didn't realize it until I was done. Is that too much. I did feel very full for a couple of hours. With most pureed soups I can eat about a cup. Is this OK? Will this change when I begin soft foods? I'm really scared this is not going to work for me.    — Lisa P. (posted on January 17, 2001)

Dear Lisa: If I had a dollar for every time in last 4 1/2 months I've thought "I'm the exception, it didn't work on me, it stopped working," I'd be rich!!!! Once you're on solids you'll see you can eat less than it feels like you can right now because what you're eating now passes through your pouch quickly. Hang in there. I promise you! I hit my first plateau at 2 weeks post op and didn't lose a pound for another 2 weeks. That was the point where I had my first of many doubts. But, as more time passes and as more weight is lost, you'll feel doubtful less and less. I'm 4 1/2 months post op and down 75lbs. I'm wearing size 10's!!! You will get there, if I can do it, anyone can! Much love,

Oh gosh, I wish you had written this question two days ago. I panicked last night because I felt like I'm "eating" too much. Of course, at the time I always panic everyone has gone home and I don't have anyone to ask. I'm 1 week post op (RNY proximal) and I thought I was stretching out my stomach and I JUST KNEW my stomach wasn't made smaller than everyone elses and I won't lose weight and I'll stay fat forever. I called the surgeon's office today and she said you can't stretch your stomach while you're on liquids (whew!) and it WILL feel full once I get to eat semi-soft foods. I guess all of us worry about being 'the one and only that won't lose weight.'

Lisa, you know we go thru so much just to get the surgery no one wants to fail. Hey I am 7 weeks post-op, and when you start to eat solids you just panic more cause some foods you can eat more of some you can not. I have been stuck with no weight loss for 3 weeks now but still my food intake is in no way like before so I know the weight will come off. I panic then visit the WLS site and see a post on the very topic just hang in there.

Lisa - I would think that if you ate too much, you would have thrown up. I am 52 days post-op, and I could eat 4 ounces of pasta but can barely tolerate 1 ounce of chicken. I think it depends on the food. Are you exercising? My surgeon told me to walk as much as possible.
