Question:
Did anyone take a sleeping pill the night before surgery?
I will call my surgeon tomorrow about this, but I wanted to know today if anyone took a sleeping pill the night before surgery. I know my racing mind won't let me sleep. Any advice or thoughts? — cynthiaellis (posted on January 12, 2001)

I had my surgery with the best and he wanted us to take a pill the night
before so we could sleep and feel relaxed the next morning before surgery.
I'll tell you Im glad he did because I couldnt have slept without that
little magic pill. I was bad enough before they put me under. God Bless and
hey its not as bad as I thought.

I had my surgery two hours away from home, and it was scheduled for 7:00
a.m., which meant I had to get there at 5:30 a.m., which meant I had to
leave my house shortly after 3:00 a.m. I think I went to bed at 1:00 a.m.
(I was watching the "Stepford Wives"). Needless to say, because
I drove in the dead of the night while my brother rode shotgun, I didn't
take any sleeping pills. When I got to the hospital, I was admitted and
taken to my room...the bed looked so comfy, I immediately crawled under the
covers and slept until they took me to the OR an hour and a half later.
So, I guess I was pumped enough to stay awake for the drive, but tired
enough to not be nervous or anxious. In fact, I remember being fairly
bored while they prepped me and just wishing I could go back to sleep!
