Question:
Does anyone know what the symptons are of dehydration?
At 4 weeks post-op I am having nausea and some vomiting. Before I was finished with my 1 egg for breakfast it came back up. Is this normal like this too shall pass? Thanks to all,Suzy — Suzanne W. (posted on October 29, 2000)

In the first month post op, I was in the ER 3 times within 9
days for dehydration. They had to give me IV'S to hydrate me, each
time. I tried to drink enough fluids, but I really did not know what the
correct amt was for me. After it was all over, I found out from the
dietician
where I had my WLS, that for my size I should have been drinking at least
60 oz of
water a day. I was not even close! After that, I got a quart sized bottle
that had
ounces measured on it. I made sure I filled it 2 times a day. I forced
myself to drink
the 60 oz that was required. It was not easy. Today, it is much easier to
do! I have water w/
me all the time, from morning til night. TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION: Symptoms
of dehydration?? Well,
I can tell you that everytime before I had to be taken to the ER for
dehydration, I had spent the days
before feeling horrible. I was dizzy, had nausea, no energy at all, felt
"loopy"...and just an over all
awful feeling!! When I got to the ER, they took my blood pressure reading
sitting down, standing up and laying
down in order to find out if I was truly dehydrated. Good luck to you.
Sounds like you need to contact your surgeon
about this if it is still a problem. It could be something else, also. You
need to have it checked out. Dehydration
can be very serious. Only a doctor can correctly diagnosis you regarding
this.

If you are becoming nausated and vomiting after eating an egg try only
eating 1/4 or 1/2 of the egg. At 4 weeks there was no way I could eat an
entire egg. In fact at 4 weeks I was just starting puree foods and only
30-60cc of those Just try backing off the size of your meals. If you have
any questions just email me. I am working with my Surgeon to develop and
diet size port. to the rny
