Question:
It has only been a week but I am not losing weight, how long does it take?
I feel like I am possibly retaining water. I has been a week since my surgery and I am only down 3 pounds. Is this normal? — blank first name B. (posted on September 22, 2000)

When I was released from the hospital, I had gained 11 lbs. in water from
all the fluids that were pumped into me. My legs were so swollen, they
felt sunburned and very tight. The best thing to do is keep getting your
fluids, and walk, walk, walk. Eventually, you'll pump out the additional
fluids and began to lose the weight you want to lose. But the two week
check up, I had lost all the water, plus 14 lbs. You'll be fine! Good
Luck!

I, too, gained 8# in the hopsital from being "afloat" with
fluids. And then, when I got home, everythign tasted nasty, so I simply
decided water was one thing I could do without. Now, THAT was smart, so I
added 5 more # in 2 days. As it turned out, there was a mechanical reason
things tasted so lousy. Once I got my water intake up where it belonged,
the wt fell off in rapid order. We do clear liquids for a month, except
for protein and vitamins. But I put on those extra 5# in the first week,
clear liquids only. I've GOT to be the only person that can GAIN on clear
liquids, no sugar. But then, I'm surely the only one stupid enough to go
NO WATER for 2 days. Signed, Very Slow Learner
