Question:
is anyone interested in putting together a foundation to help others pay for this sur

I have been reading alot of insurance questions and the answers posted to them. I have also been listening to alot of members on their financial situations and the surgery. I want to find out if anyone out there may be interested in gathering info on starting an Obesity Surgery Support Foundation. It would assist patients that could not pay for surgery out of pocket and it would also assist with doctor referrals and other things that the person my need. It would also serve as a great source for info on the differnt types of surgeries out there. Could you provide more information? You say you are seriously working on this project...could you tell us what you've accomplished so far? What are the plans for the foundation, have you applied for 501(c)(3) status, do you have a board of directors, a development & implementation plan, etc, etc.

Hello: By seriously I mean that I have begun lots or research on avenues and resources that could possibly be utilized for this venture. and no I do not have a borad or a 503 or any other legal status. I am requesting help at this present time so that all of these question can be answered and we can roll forward with getting the foundation up and working. I probably do not have time for the administrative ends however I'd be glad to donate $15 a month for a fund to help needy potential patients. I hope that a foundation develops it's a fanatastic idea.

What a great idea! I would really like to help in any way needed. I feel strongly that no one should be denied access to this life saving surgery because of financial considerations. I am having my surgery on 9/18 so I won't be much help in the next couple of weeks, but I welcome the opportunity to become involved after I recouperate. Please let me know what I can do.

I have been denied by my ins. co. & the frusteration is so high. And the emotions that go into this whole ins process, takes it's toll. I would definately donate money to help someone get the surgery they need. And anything else I could do to help, just e-mail me.

HI! I would be happy to help with this idea. Its a wonderful idea. I myself am trying to get this surgery but cannot afford the out of pocket expense. I have been saving but unfortunately in order to save enough money for my surgery i will be saving for years on my salary. I wouldn't be able to donate money, but i would be happy to help an any other way needed. I know what its like to need and want this so badly, yet knowing i cannot have this surgery for years is so depressing. I wish there was a foundation to help me. I would love to help make this easier for others.

HI everyone, I remember this post from a while back and was also interested in it myself. I am low income myself and would probabaly be one of the ones to need help, but I can give back as well. Like I say in my profile, if everyone on this site can an least give 1.00$ That would be an excellent start! I myself can donate 20.00 per month in not a little more. So Im sure that everyone can help even if its just one dollar and then of course there are the people who are very generous and in the finacial position to be able to give more, so that would be such a great thing. Hope this really does develop! And hopefully there will be more feedback on this!

It might be nice to put together a walk/run to raise money for people who cant afford the surgery. That way we would be helping ourselves and others at the same time:)

THIS WOULD GREAT HELP TO ALOT OF PEOPLE(Including myself). I HOPE THAT THIS WILL REALLY TAKE OFF AND HELP OTHERS IN NEED. I DON'T MAKE A LOT OF MONEY, BUT FOR THIS I WOULD SCRAP UP $5-10'S A MONTH TO DONATE FOR THIS CAUSE. I KNOW HOW DEPRESSING IT IS TO WANT THIS SURGERY SO BAD AND NOT HAVE THE RESOURCES TO PAY FOR IT. This is a wonderful idea. My insurance doesn't cover the surgery, and I'm fortunate enough to be at a point in my life where I was able to get a home equity loan to cover it. But many large people are relegated to low-paying jobs because of prejudice and/or mobility limitations and don't have financial resources. There are ways to set up funds through community foundations that make it simpler in terms of the paperwork, tax aspects, etc. Anita, feel free to contact me privately about this if you like. I don't know a lot about it but could provide some help. I'll also definitely make a commitment to contribute.

I think that this is the a wonderful idea. Obesity is a serious issue and an organized foundation to help support and provide assistance for those who are in need of undergoing the procedure. WOW! The thought of this kind of foundation being around is wonderful, so many lives saved, so many families spared grief and loneliness. I'm another one who would greatly benefit from this and pray that it comes together, have no insurance, and can not get a loan, but would graciously give to this cause along with so many others who support this idea.
