Question:
Should I cancel consultation appointment with Dr?
I have received a copy of the procedures covered by Utah Medicaid and it says that gastric bypass surgery is "not a benefit". I have an appointment scheduled with Dr. Smith in Salt Lake City on Sept. 14 and now I think maybe I should cancel. I can't afford to have the surgery without help from Medicaid and I don't want to get my hopes up. The consultation will cost any where from $150-$250 and I can't afford that either at this time. What should I do? I'm so disappointed. — Mahala V. (posted on August 24, 2000)

Followup with a talk to someone who handles their claims. Ask them
"if it is medically necessary" would it be covered? That may
make a difference. Also, have you checked on this site for peers in your
state to see if it covered it for them? You might go there.
