Question:
Has anyone had a problem with their pills not being effective enough after surgery?

My periods used to start on the same day every 4 weeks. Now they are all screwed up and my flow is much heavier. Does surgery affect the absorption of the drug?    — jaredsmom (posted on July 5, 2000)

Yes, holy cow, my period started the day after surgery (a week ago) and has not stopped and it is still heavy. I have been ON the pill all days before surgery and most days since, to no effect. The cramps laid me up, caused me to take pain meds on an empty stomach and I had a horrible bout of nausea. I have an appointment with my surgeon tomorrow and will seek help, but I suspect the solution will be to get on contraception that doesn't require GI absorption - like the depo provera shot, or the new patches coming out in a few months.
