Question:
Anyone out there tried the new WLS after having the older Jejuno-ileal bypass & taked
Had JIB in 1978, lost 120 lbs., lived poor quality lifestyle with severe diarrhea, serious metabolic deficiences, liver complications, and a few near death ER visits. Had JIB reversed in 1982, gained weight back. I was wondering if there's anyone out there who experienced this and then went on to have the newer WLS. I might be interested, but only if the newer WLS doesn't have the severe complications of JIB. I never want to go through anything like that again, but I need to lose the weight and might consider the newer surgery. Can anyone help me? — Beth W. (posted on May 3, 2000)

Hi there. I'm writing to let you know that the newer types of weight loss
surgery have far less severe physical consequeces than JIB. I have done a
lot of research on this, and chose open RNY for myself (now 2 months
post-op). To see the differences, please visit the web site posted here:
http://www.asbs.org/html/story/ch_1.html You will see that they no longer
perform the JIB and why... and conversely, how much safer and how
successful today's surgical options are in comparison. I hope this helps.
Best of luck!

You might wish to reach Patricia Hankins, her revision is coming up soon,
You could write and compare notes. Good Luck.
