Question:
What's A Good High Quality Protein Supplement?
I have read all of the responses concerning post-op diet and several times it was mentioned to consume a high quality protein supplement. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thank you for your help — [Anonymous] (posted on April 22, 2000)

As many people as are on the site, there are good protein supps. One that
is NOT high quality is Carnation INstant Breakfast & skim milk. There
are a few that have the quality but don't have the quantity and othr
balance necessary to give you all you need in a small serving. There are
several that are of high enough quality, fully balanced but require so much
liquid that they sort of overburden a tiny new pouch. Describe the textures
you prefer and some flavors in a private email and maybe we can form a
shopping list for you to work with.

Whey protein has a reputation for being easily digestible. Both ProBlend 55
and Designer Protein are whey protein powders. They provide the same amount
of protein per gram of mix, and are low in carbs. PB 55 is widely available
on the 'net, Designer Protein is available at GNC and other stores. I'm
fond of fruit slushies and smoothies and find the DP (Natural flavor) works
well for that. Many who prefer shakes swear by the PB. It's all a matter of
taste buds, and everyone's are different. But both are excellent protein
supplements.

I have tried a few powders (I can't seem to EVER mix them well
enough to get out all of the lumps!), and the Pure Pro at GNC
(I couldn't stomach it- I didn't think it tasted good, although
some people swear by it). The best I have tried is Pure Protein,
again found in the cooler section at GNC. It is a premixed
shake that is around 180 calories, 4 carbs, no sugar, and 35 grams
of protein. It comes in 4 flavors (Vanilla Ice Cream, Cuppaccino,
strawberry, and chocolate). It is 12 oz. and I can drink it in about
1/2 hour, sipping it. It cost about $2.69 a can. I drink one for
breakfast every day. It is a good way to get more than 1/2
of my protein in, and the taste is pretty good! Good Luck!

Go to the database of this site and enter "protein" in the search
box. Also in the database are so many questions which ask the same thing
you are and there are some very good answers already there. You will see
that there are many, many, many answers to this question and simlar ones.
There has been a ton of dialoge about protein powders, drinks, bars, etc as
well as their preparation, palatability, availability, etc.

I use the Instant Whey Protien Shake in vanilla. It's taste really great
and mixes well. I buy it at Albertson's grocery, by the vitamins. Each
serving has 20 grams of protien and 3 grams of sugar. Try mixing it with
Crystal Lite Pineapple-Orange, it taste like a creamsicle.

Problend 55 found at GNC is great: 55 g. of protein per serving. Combine
ice cubes, water, the powder, 5 strawberries and 1/2 of a banana, then whip
it in a blender for 30 seconds.

I going in on thursday for my wls and i was told to try these drinks before
hand. Which was a very good idea. I bought the ultra pure pro from GNC
which comes in 4 flavors. So far i have tried 2 of them and they are really
good. Also i did call the company that makes them, because since after my
wls i will not be able to drink a whole can. They told me i can pour the
rest into a bottle with a lid, and it well stay fresh for a month. I just
though that was good info for the new people like me.
