Question:
Surgery Date: 4-10-00
I am feeling a little overwhelmed with the post op diet. I can't stomach Carnation Instant Breakfast, I am scared of not being able to take my anti-depressants or premarin. I am concerned about eating every hour on the hour. I am nervous. I go for pre-op work up on the 3rd. I am a strong person usually, but lately it seems like I need constant reassurance. — [Anonymous] (posted on March 26, 2000)

Hi, I have come to the conclusion we all worry to much. I had my surgery
on the 17th of March, I am 55 and was on medicine for Hypertension,
Prempro, Zoloft and a few other's I didn't take any of these med's during
my stay in the hopital but resumed them when I got home on the 22nd. I
don't think I suffered any ill effects from being without them. I now take
my Blood Pressure med. Prempro, and Dropped down to 1/2 dose of Zoloft.
Hopefully I will be about to discontinue all but my HR meds. as I lose
weight. Don't worry so much, Your Dr. will provide you will all the info
you will need. Spend your time visualizing how much better your life will
be when it is all over. Good Luck and God Bless.

I would suggest you take one day at a time. All the information IS
overwhelming and can be confusing! I have found, however, if
I just focus on the day at hand and let tomorrow take care of itself,
my life is calmer. I, too, HATED Carnation Instant Breakfast
(it is still in the cupboard), but I have found other ways
to get my protein in and you will too! For that matter, the things
I loved right after surgery turn my stomach now, and I have
broadened my food intake so I don't have eat those things
any more. Just take one day at a time and you will be fine! Good Luck!

I was overwhelmed when I was pre-op, too. I have never had Carnation
Instant Breakfast and don't plan on ever having any! Tomorrow is my 3rd
week post op. I get between 60-80 grams of protein a day - haven't touched
a protein drink yet. I'm down a full size!! Please email me at any time
and I'll be happy to help in any way I can.
