Question:
Help!!! I need to increase my iron level

My surgeon informed me that my serum iron level is very low (25) I can not have surgery until my serum iron level is at least 45. What can I do to increase my iron level? I started taking iron pills. What else can I do?    — blank first name B. (posted on February 8, 2000)

Take your iron pills with Vite C (any one will do) and not with ANYTHING else. What kind of iron are you taking and how many mg ELEMENTAL iron are in it (in the fine print on the back of the pkg)?

Hello, your doc can give you iron shots to increase the amount of iron in your system. A word of wisdom, I have a rare blood disorder that is called thalasemia we do not use iron properly, You can overdo iron and it can cause great damamge to your body organs. Make sure that your doc checks your iron levels often. If you have too much iron for long periods of time it will enlarge your heart and liver (ect.) Good Luck with wls.
