Question:
Nutrition, weight gain, and and weight loss after pregnancy.
I had gastric bypass surgery Dec 16, 1998 I weighed 246, I am down to 150. I just found out I am five weeks pregnant and I am stilled shocked. i am still losing weightm but we really want a healthy child. Any suggestions on nutrition, books on nutrition after gastric by pass? What kind of meal plans are suggested? Will I gain weight? How much is normal? Will I continue to lose weight? Will the baby be okay? Will I be okay? Will I have problems losing weight after the pregnancy? Any advice and help is greatly appreciated. — Danielle O. (posted on August 3, 1999)

What KIND of bypass did you have? Protein is the most critical thing. Are
you getting plenty of high quality protein supplement? Like 60-120g per
day? MINIMUM? What form of protein did your doctor recommend and have you
been faithful thus far?

Your obstetrician, if he/she is worth their salt, can recommend a
nutrionist or dietitician. Mine did years before I had this surgery. If
your Dr. can't, ask your WLS surgeon to recommend a dietician/nutrionist.
Don't take chances with your nutrition. It may not be covered by your
insurance, but it is VERY important, so make the financial sacrifice and
see a nutritionist.
