When I had my weightloss surgery I ASKED the doctor to remove my gallbladder because I'd been told this surgery increases gallbladder problems by 30%. He told me he had removed my healthy gallbladder..but the lab reports came back it was totally inflamed and full of stones. Yet on the outside it looked healthy. Doctors had labeled my a 'hypochondriac' over the years as they couldn't find the source of my pain. I'd TOLD them in my family the gallbladder looks healthy when it isn't..but they didn't listen...aarrghh..20 years of suffering. As for eating...I can eat anything I want without any problems. I had pizza yesterday...it took 2 hours for me to eat 3 pieces...but they were good and I had time to spare.(Usually I inhale my food). BTW I'm 18months post op.

It really depends which surgery you choose to have. I had the g/b with the duodenal switch/aka the bileopancreatic diversion, and I tolerate chinese and pizza fine. I don't prefer either cause they are high in fat and not my favorite foods but they don't cause me any problems. I had pizza the other night and got a little bit of heartburn that is about it. This may be different if you have a VBG or RNY. Hugs, Allison 1-9-97 358lbs 4-4-99 165lbs -193

For me, pizza and chinese food did result in nausea. In both cases I overate both types of food and that was certainly partly to blame. I think the cheese from the pizza partially blocked my stoma causing me to get sick. The chinese food just disagreed with me. However, on other occasions I ate chinese with no problems. I think the main thing to remember is to eat slowly, do not overeat when you are full, and to be careful what you try after gastric bypass surgery. You are learning to eat all over again and experimentation and caution should be the rule. However, it is reasonable to expect that you could eat just about anything with some personal exceptions.

I am 15 months post-op and have no trouble at all with chinese food or pizza. In fact I eat pizza all the time with pepperoni, mushrooms, extra cheese, etc. Just one slice instead of 5! Everyone is different and can tolerate different foods, the only thing that I have trouble with is straight milk and pancakes with syrup. Everything else is fine.

I don't know anything about pizza & chinese but anything with a creamy texture - ice cream, pudding, whipped cream - just kill me if I have eaten anything at all that day.

every person is different. Some people can and can not handle certain foods. Its all individual. As for me i can handle all food, never thrown up or anything. But i can say there are certain foods i just dont like to eat anymore. Ive had pizza and general tsos chicken and stuff. Im three monhs post op lost 90# i would do it in a heartbeat 100x over! Good luck to you.

Pizza is ok, but it has to be well done to the point of being crunchy. No gooey bread! I still do not tolerate Chinese food well, even 17 months post op. I get it stuck every time, and end up throwing up. I think the rice in Chinese dishes seem to get stuck - I can eat rice otherwise. Good luck!

I have not had a problem with either of those two foods. In fact those are my favorite two I would eat those all the time if I could. But every person is different. All you can do is try. If it bothers you, give it a couple of months and try again.

Two of my favorites! Eaten in moderation I have had no problems.

Not for everyone. Some can't get along with MSG, so buy your Chinese "without, please". I don't do well with ANY rice, but do much better with just the steamed real rice. Maybe cuz I approach with caution? If I liked it and tolerated it before surgery, I do now. Bbut I must chew VERY carefully, as pork and chicken can cause trouble for any of us. My husband (also a bypass) also has no trouble with any of the sauces or anything. Just textures. Pizza. I didn't even WANT any for about 18 months. And even still, I am telling you, they changed every single sauce as none of 'em taste as good to me now. If I do "chomp, chomp, swallow", I'll be miserable after 1 piece. If I'm careful, I can enjoy some salad and a piece or two. She: 262 to 112, 10/94 He: 285 to 275, 10/95 Distal gastric bypass, Tacoma, Wa

I am 5 months post-op & I eat pizza ALL the time. I only like thin veggie pizza now, though. I don't want much meat if any on my pizza. I also have no trouble eating Chinese food. Chicken fried rice is wonderful & I always ask for them to cook it without oil. It tastes just the same to me!!!!!

Neither are hard to eat, just hard to eat much of it. I can now eat one large piece of pizza, or two small ones. This compared to being able to eat the whole pizza before surgery!Chinese is OK just fills you up fast especially the rice. You can't eat the real greasy stuff if you have dumping, but all these reasons are the reason the surgery works!!

Food intolerances are totally personal. Pizza is one of the easiest foods for me to digest since surgery, but I only eat the topping. Chinese depends on the dish because I can't tolerate things like broccoli, asparagus or any of the dark greens.

I eat pizza alot....white pizza...no problems. The same for chinese food. The only thing I have problems with are lots of rice gives me a belly ache and broccoli as well at times.

I think this is different for everyone. Some people can tolerate it and others can't. However, I learned in my support group that Chinese food isn't a good choice, even though it has lots of vegetables. We were told that Chinese restaurants use a lot of oil and sugar when preparing sauces, and that if we want to eat stir fry veggies, it's best to prepare them at home.
