Question:
Has anyone considered having the gastric bypass after an unsuccessful Lap Band?
I had the LAP Band surgery about 3 years ago. I was doing great the first year, then I came to hault and have been there for two years. I was 339 lb I am now 280. I have goneup and down. I never went all the way back to 339, but never went lower than 280. I have been exercising, eating yogurt, 1 piece of chicken, no candy, diet drinks, and don't drink soda at all. I am considering getting the Gastric Bypass. I am at a loss and need some advise or help. — Sabrina D. (posted on September 26, 2005)

I have seen hundreds of people successfully convert from band to bypass, so
it certainly can be done.

I had the Lap Band placed about 2 1/2 years ago. Lost weight great at
first...then it slowed dramatically. Got an adjustment..but they over
filled me and I coldnt hold anything down...they took some out...I started
to regain....had a fill again..again got ill. Had most of the fill removed
and have steadily regained over the past year. My current Dr. feels that my
former Dr. was too aggressive with the fills and by overfilling me and then
only having to remove most of what was put in, it defeate the purpose. If I
had it to do over again, I would have had the bypass. The mental anguishof
having lost sooo much and thenr egained it all even after surgery is sooo
difficult. From everything I have read and researched, the band works best
when small....I mean very small increments of fill are placed. I hopefully
am back on the right pah with my new doctor. You dont mention having had
fills etc. Perhaps all you need is to be properly adjusted. Sorry if I
sound soo jaded but its been a long difficult journey.
