Question:
Is it typical to stop losing weight seven weeks after surgery?
The first seven weeks I lost 35 pounds. I had a stricture and was dehydrated,so,an endoscopy was performed on 8/11 (My surgery was July 5th.)I have only lost one pound in the last nine days! Is this normal? My caloric intake has been 400-450 calories a day. Weeks four through seven my caloric intake was only 50-100 calories due to the stricture. I'm moving so much more and have been walking 20 minutes a day for about a week. My energy level is much better now and it seems like I might be losing inches. I still need to lose more weight! Will it start coming off again? — Amy G. (posted on August 20, 2005)

How is your water now? What form are you calories? I'd say it's not
enough calories, but it depends on WHAT kind of calories they are. It is
normal to pause all along the way, but a dead stop might indicate you are
still needing more sometehing, water, nutrition, something

You probably need to be getting more calories in. When you have under 1000
calories, your body starts holding on to everything you eat and storing it
as fat. It will use muscle stores for energy (you do not want this to
happen) Start slowly adding in more calories in the form of proteins and
veggies (if you tolerate them) Also make sure you are getting enough
fluids in. Dehydration is a big problem for a couple months post op.
Other than that, it is very normal to have a lot of pauses along the weight
loss journey. This is just your body adjusting to the changes. Carmen

Hi Amy
I'm not post op but pre op...I'm having this surgery in the fall some time
and I was told at my first appointment with the nurse that lbs are
different than inches. You might be losing the inches part as of right
now, but then it will change over to losing the lbs soon after. This
probably will contiune for the first 12-18 months, the "going back and
forth" between losing the lbs vs. the inches. If you might think it's
the diet or food your eating such as the calorie amount, maybe talk to your
physician or dietician. Hang in there!!! Good luck to you! :)
