Question:
Does anyone know of a surgeon who will perform WLS for someone with a BMI of <35?

No, I do not know of any, and for me if my BMI had been that low then it
would not have been worth the risk. I almost died, and needed a second
surgery, this should be a last resort and with a BMI under 35 I cannot
imagine that it is that.
Just my opinion!!

AMOS MOD NOTE: Lets be nice, previous experience with questions like these
can bring out the worst in people:( You can state its a bad idea if thats
your opinion but PLEASE be nice about it!(<P>To answer your question
my surgeon dr philip schauer reports having done some light weights with
insurance approval IF their co morbidities are bad enough and expected to
improve with WLS. Dr Schauer is a world leader in WLS I trust his judgement

I don't know of anybody, but I have to say, too bad I couldn't have had the
surgery when my BMI was less than 35. Maybe I could have prevented some of
the wear and tear my body experienced getting up to a BMI of 53. I know
this is "supposed" to be the last resort, but I personally, my
own opinion, think they need to lower those numbers for qualification. If
we all know how well (or not) diets work , for < 5% will lose and
maintain with out surgery, why should everyone have to go thru tha HELL of
obesity for years on end to be "deserving" of the opportunity
that so many of us have had? I know I am likely in the minority for
thinking this way, but we are all entitled to our own opinion.

I am pretty sure my surgeon will. When I had my surgery done there was
another patient there who was about 80 pounds over weight with no
comorbidities. He is an absolute wonderful guy and a spectacular surgeon
with a lot of experience. I totally agree with what Willow stated. Why wait
until you are dying if you already know that you have a horrible track
record with keeping weight off? You can link to my surgeon's site through
my profile. Dr. Aguirre in Mexico. Best wishes!!!
