Question:
Does slow weightloss make it to goal??

Surgery on 01/11/05. I am 48 year old female who weighed 285 lbs at 5'6.At 2 months postt op I now weigh 255/250 lbs. Have been losing slowly since surgery. When weighloss comes off so slowly yet steadily is there a chance of losing to goal like people who experience fast weight loss? Also is there a chance of the weightloss suddenly picking up really quickly like some do right after wls??    — mssexyfaye (posted on March 15, 2005)

Got news for you, you are actually not a "slow looser", if you are avg 2-3 lbs a week you are loosing at just the right speed. I don't know why we all have this warped idea that we should loose 6-10lbs a week. LOL! You and I are about 9 days apart and to date I have lost 42 lbs and I have been exercising like a mad woman since 2 weeks post-op. The slow loosers are the ones who are in the same place we are and have only lost 20 lbs! Believe me, they are out there agonizing everyday. What I have found from meeting all these great folks online is that the slow and steady ones not only reach goal but have tigher skin and better results with PS. Keep the faith, you are doing well!

Hey, dont worry, as long as you stick to your present goal of protien first, water , and keep a good head, you will get to goal. I lost slow...am at goal...and have been for the last year. I started out at 328lbs, 5'7" and am now at 148lbs. I had my surgery 2/14/02. Good luck and welcome to the losing side!

My weightloss was also "slow" at first, at least to me. I was 265 pre-surgery, 10/29/04. Now I'm 185, which is 80 lbs lost in a little over 4 months! So I'm here to tell you that you could start losing it faster and really see the results.

Did you lose 35 lbs in 2 mos? That is average, not slow. 27 - 44 is the av. loss for 2 mos post op.

Just want to add my 2Cents worth. I started out at 5-3" 230 pounds. It was a very slow go for me. I am now about 2.5 years out and never reached my goal. I am currently about 160 lbs. However, I feel great and think I look fabulous. I had hoped for more, however, it never happened. I just needed to adjust my goal. Some of us truly have some type of metabolic problem that doesn't allow us to reach goal. I really believe that science does not fully understand everyone's weight problem.

Carolyn, I had surgery about 12 days before you and we are experiencing the same amount of weight loss pound for pound. We are also close in age, I turned 51 on 1/9. If you read my profile you will see my entry today complaining of the slow weight loss. I was at 35 at two months and now two weeks later I am -42lbs. I am constantly reading other journals and comparing their weight loss to mine. I want it to come off faster but I know that at 51 and more than two dozen yo-yo diets I am not going to lose as fast as I did at 20 years old. But most of the journals that I have read indicate that yes, slow losers do make it to goal even though it may take them 18 months instead of year. Good luck and e-mail me, we will cheer each other on.
