Nasogastric Tube? A nasogastric tube is a clear plastic tube that is inserted through the nose, down the back of the throat, through the esophagus and into the stomach. This tube can be used initially to remove air and digestive juices from the stomach.

Jennifer is right. If you have one...it is usually removed the morning after surgery. They put it in while you are asleep and that is the worst part. The rest is easy.

NG= Naso gastric tube that is placed into your nose, down the back of your esaophogus and into your stomach to keep it empty and decompressed. They usually insert after you are asleep. DN RN @ GOAL PS Don't get feisty and pull it out :-) It's important even though some people hate the idea of something in the back of their throats.
