After my wls my sugars took awhile to come down and now Im off insulin and
oral meds. How far out are you? If you are a recent post op, any time the
diabetic body has an infection, or a cold or surgery the blood sugars tend
go up and stay up. How is your diet? Have you had any steroid injections
for artritis? When I had one in the spine, mine went up to 400 and my doc
put me on prandin 3x a day, and upped my insulin to get it under control.
Walking and exercise and LOW carbs should bring it down. If your using a
bs monitor at home have you reset the code recently? Is this a fasting bs?
You should probably see your pcp and get his advise and get it under
control as soon as possible. BTW Im off all insulin, oral meds, and my bs
are in the 90's fasting. I am off all meds now 2 years post op. Good
luck. Rosemary

My blood sugars soared post op exceeding 300 at times. Before WLS I was on
oral diabetic meds, now after I am on insulin.
The Dr said it was all the changes the body goes through after surgery. I
still have bs above 200 sometimes, even on insulin and being 6 wks post op.

I am 10 months post op and down 71 pounds. My last bloodwork was two weeks
ago and my A1C was at 7.1%. That is very close to normal but it seems like
it has taken forever to see a noticable difference in my blood sugars. I
am on 1 oral medication. Hang in there, you might not see a difference for
a while, but it will get better over time if not immediately. Good Luck
