Question:
Is anyone struggling with depression as far as ten months out

It seems that I am having a hard time lately with the changes that have taken place. I have lost 135 since 3/04 and feel great but sometimes it is overwhelming.    — Mary W. (posted on January 27, 2005)

I am nine months out and really struggling lately too. I do take prozac, but am thinking I might need to increase it. I feel so lost, like I don't know myself or my wants/hopes/dreams anymore. Just know you aren't alone.

#1 . . . How are you labs? Not just are they in normal range, but are the values falling? Where's your iron? H & H? TIBC? ferritin? Thiamine? B12? folate? Calcium? PTH? how is your DEXA scan (bone density)? Are you taking protein shakes? (vitalady.com) B100 (B Complex)? B12 subs or shots? Iron? dry A, D & E? EFAs? LIke CoroMega (vitalady.com) a couple of good multivites? Like Kirkland (also vitalady.com) All the above available at VitaLady.com, where everything is safe for us! Nutritional deficiencies can trigger depression . . . as a matter of fact, B12 deficiency = one symptoms is depression. May not be all the problem, but it's prolly part of it . . . vites, minerals, a good walk in whatever sun you can find, a good cuddle. All may help . . . And you may need anti-depressent meds. Check the vites.minerals first, then talk to doc. Best to ya . . .

Depression can strike anyone at any time. Please seek professional help. Meds and therapy are available and often work well. Best of luck!

Hi Mary :) I run a group called GastricBypass-PostOp in YahooGroups that has over 1700 members in it and from personal experience and noting what others are going through, depression for many seems to come on strong beginning around the 9th month postop. I wish I could tell you why this is, but thought I'd at least share with you that you are not alone. For me, the depression subsided in my 11th month and then stayed away until I was about 1 1/2 years postop. (I've dealt with depression many times in my life so the second recurrence is most likely just me getting depressed and is not connected to my WLS). Sure hope this helps and hang in there knowing that it's ok to seek help...

Hi, I am 10mths out as well and have lost 147lbs. I too get depressed at times. I have noticed that when I get depressed it's when I have not gotten enough excerise during the week. Or, when I miss taking my multi-vitamin. I'm not sure why that is. Just know that you are not alone and that if you keep feeling this way, it may be a good ideal to talk with a professional, who can help you determine why and what is making you feel this way. Good Luck and know that PRAYER can help as well!

YES !! I have researched this and it seems that WLS is equivalent to those of an amputee..As strange as it may sound, we ahve addictive personalities and are actually morning part of our loss....Most of us are one-half the body size, still addicted to what are bodies craved(food) and we are in mourning over the loss...Lexapro helped me a bit, better than wellbutrin and zoloft, but after 2 year and 190lbs lighter, I am always very blue...the wls only took away the body fat, but I am still who I was prior and there has been ZERO mental difference....Go to an MD and try to find help...I wish you luck, as I have been blue for years now..
