It means "No nasogastric tube" That is the tube that is put in
through your nose that goes down into the stomach. Because the stomach has
been altered after a gastric bypass, it is possible to puncture the pouch
if the medical personnell is not aware of the situation. If you are ever
taken to the ER and unconscious, they nearly always put an NG tube in.

As Miss Manners posted.. it means Nasogastric tube. In a lifesaving
measures situation they may want to use it. If you have a medic alert
braclet EMT's, nurses, etc... are trained to look for them! HTH!

A NG tube is a nasogastic tube. It is a tube that is place in your nares or
nose and extends down into your stomach. It is usually used sometimes after
surgery when there is a need to drain the stomach and for many other
reasons. The reason it is important to know in a person with this type of
surgery, is because it is put in blindly. In other words it would be easy
to cause damage because you can not see where it is going. There is a basic
way of measuring the approximate distance to insert, but it could possibly
perforate a small stomach if pushed too deep. Therefore the ID bracelet
would tell them to insert it under x-ray to be sure. hope that helps

No N/G tube means that medical personnel should not pass a nasogastric
tube. After a RNY the usual measurement would not be correct and they
could actually cause physical damage.
