I didn't have one either. I don't know why some do and some don't.

I asked my doctor about this because my boyfriend had one when he had WLS, but my dad didn't. Our surgeon said it's dependant upon how well he feels everything is put back together and also on how much drainage he thinks there's going to be. He said he usually DOESN'T put the drains in his patients. The use of the drain he said also enables them to see what is draining and if it looks normal or if the drainage doesn't look normal, that there could be leaks. I know what I just said is kind of choppy, but that's the gist of what he said the reason (that he does it) is.
