Question:
What are the requirements for a revision. I am two plus years out.

I had my RNY two plus years ago and I have lost 80 pounds. My starting weight was around 335 and I am 5'4 about in height. I have been very steady with my weight and I would like to become "lighter" I have had a child since my RNY surgery. I have United Health Care insurance no Medicaid. Please no comments that are mean are needed. Yes, for the most part the diet is followed. Thank you for your time in advance. Cheryl    — train (posted on October 23, 2004)

HI CHERYL, CONGRADULATIONS ON THE BABY, CHILDREN ARE WONDERFUL. HOWEVER, THE 'BABY FAT' SEEMS TO STICK AROUND. AT LEAST, THAT WAS MY EXPERIENCE. MY ADVICE TO YOU IS......FORGET WHERE YOU THINK THAT YOU SHOULD BE. START OVER FROM HERE. FIND YOURSELF A SUPPORT SYSTEM AND GO FOR IT. THERE ARE MANY OPTIONS AND GOOD FOR YOU FOR SAYING UPFRONT THAT YOU DON'T WANT DUMPED ON. BEST OF LUCK, LORIANN

The requirement is that your surgery has a mechanical failure such as a staple line disruption. There is a revision forum here, did you ask there? You can get there by clicking on communities at the top part of this page. Good luck!

Cheryl, have you gone back and talked with your surgeon to find out if there is something mechanically wrong? I promise not to be mean, just plain want to help you on this. How is your exercise? At my support group (WISH Center 18+ month out group) last week the exercise therapist was saying that if you still want to loose more weight you really need to do some form of aerobic exercise at least 5-6 days a week for at least 30-45 minutes. And in addition to that she said a person needs to do some sort of toning exercise. It strentghens the bones and makes your body more defined. Now, this does not mean that you need to lift heavy weights (boring in my opinion), you can go to Curves for the circuit training or do water walking for the water resistance or use resistance bands. One last question, how is your water intake? If you would like you can email me and maybe I can help you on the exercise ideas and just plain put our heads together to get ya loosing again. Another question, do you have a support group to go to? Chris

You should check out these two Yahoo support groups for people seeking revisions: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/ossg-revision/ and http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/wlsrevisionsupport. Best of luck to you.

I have seen revision approved for mechanical failure, regain, non-loss, or illness. Depends on how your doc writes it up and how your ins is. Do you have acid? Any reflux at all? Can you eat more? How long does a meal last you, once finished? There are several questions you can prepare to have to answer when you see your doc.
