Question:
if there are no complications
if there are no complications, what is the length of time it takes for open rny surgery? I know it depends on the surgeon but I just wanted to hear from some people that have had the open and know how long it took when they had it thanks — taterbug898 (posted on August 24, 2004)

I had an open RNY (revision from VBG). Total operating time was an hour and
a half and I think some of that was just removing adhesions from my
previous surgery. I was in the hospital 2 nights - in on Tuesday morning,
out by THursday at noon. No complications.

Melinda - I had open RNY. My surgeon said it would take about 2.5 hours.
I was out in less than an hour. I had surgery on Monday morning, I was out
of the hospital on Wednesday before noon. I had basically no pain just
stiffness and discomfort.

It depends on your surgeon. Is open your only option?

I had an open RNY it took about 3 hours, my surgeons norm is 3-5 hours, but
he also removes your appendix and gallbladder too.

It took about 60 minutes and I was the last patient of the day. My surgeon
takes the easy cases last. I also had gallbladder out. Normally the open
RNY alone takes him 45 minutes or less.
