I don't know if you are pre-op or post-op or what..but here goes.
Personally speaking I have gained as much as 20 pounds in less than a
week...simple water retention. WEll not so simple it's a result of the
weight, meds I'm on for another condition and the fact taht I can't
exercise as I should due to a back and hip injury.
So, yes it's possible.
Also I have seen a lot of folks referring to a bunch of fluid retention
after surgery as they hydrate you very very well while in the hospital. So
it could be from many things.
Yes....5 pounds in 3 days is very possible.

First it would be very helpful to fill in your profile, at least a bit.
Your surgery asupport page and the o wows, and talk of clothes exchange
makes it appear your a post op. YES, depending on time of day, hydration,
what we atre last, like salty foods can lead to more liquid drinking and
weight gain. A gallon of water weighs 8 pounds. I myself remember gaining 8
pounds in a few hours:( Soon aftyer surgery. How far out are you?

If you have gained 5 pounds in 3 days it is not weight from fat. You can
not gain that much fat in such a short amount of time, but it can be due to
water retention and such.

Did you eat 15,000 calories more than you should have? If not then drink
lots of water, exercise and the water weight will probably drop in a day or
2.

Depends on what you eat, how much sodium is in your diet and your calorie
count per day and the level of exercise you get and your rate of
metabolism.
