Question:
Coffee decrease or increase hunger????
I'm sitting here drinking a cup of coffee (only my 3rd time since wls), and I'm wondering if coffee increases or decreases your appetite and what does it do for weight loss? I checked the OH library for an answer and it seems to be split. Some say increase hunger some say otherwise, same goes for weight loss. I've noticed when I drink coffee it decreases my appetite, which kinda makes me want to drink a cup every day. Oh, and before everyone asks... yes I am getting all my water in. Hi If I tend to drink coffee or anything with caffiene in it it tends to
make me hungrier, so I try my best to stay with the caffiene free things to
drink!

I drink LOTS of coffee and it seems to decrease my appetite. Perhaps that
is because I'm drinking and not eating. :) I don't drink coffee or tea
close to my vits and iron as it "binds the iron" and that is just
an FYI.

In extrmely small amounts caffine decreases my apetite. However, I have
also found, decafinated hot drinks or hot milk will do the same thing for
me. There is something about the hot drink that cuts my apetite.

I absolutely LOVE coffee since I had surgery so I drink lots of it. I start
out with a cup of regular then switch to decaf. I'd rather drink coffee
than eat so I think it must be decreasing my appetite. Like the other
poster, I don't like to eat until I've been up a few hours but I just can't
wait to get that first taste of coffee.

I have heard that caffeine increases appetite, but I know that lots of diet
aids have lots of caffeine in them to boost metabolism. Aside from that, it
could be what people put in the coffee that increases hunger: sugar,
sweetened creamers, even milk contains carbs. Just my 2 cents.

I have recently discovered all the different types of flavored coffee here
at my work. And I know my daily cup definitely decreases my appetite. I,
too, also make sure I get in my 64 ounces of water while working plus
whatever I drink after. And I do make sure I take my vitamins a minimum of
2-3 hours later.

I was told that Caffine hinders the absorbtion of our vitamins that we need
so desperately.

It seems to completely diminish my hunger all together. I think we can see
by the posts below our journeys truly are all individual.

First off let me say that caffiene does not stimulate hunger in me. I know
that some people do experience this though. Next, let me address the
'issue' of caffiene as a part of your diet... A: the only hinderance on
vitamin or nutrient absorption related to caffiene is when you are eating
or taking vitamins WITH the caffiene. Just because you had a cup of coffee
in the morning, doesnt mean that you can't absorb your vitamins later on in
the day. (there is some study that links calcium depletion with caffiene,
however, there are others that contradict that) B: Caffiene is a diuretic.
You really can't argue that point much. :) So, you HAVE to make sure you
get in EXTRA liquids to compensate for it's effect. C: You would be wise
to look closely at your coffee consumption from the standpoint of fat and
calories. Drinking of caloried beverages (especially yummie ones!)is a bad
habit that can creep into your daily life all too easily. If you're still
in the loosing stages, my advice would be drink it black with artificial
sweetener, so you're not adding unnecessary calories into your daily
routine. That's what I know from my research and Dr. conversations. Hope
it helps you!
