Question:
I would like to know what was your goal weight at 5 '5

I am having a hard time choosing a goal weight. I am 4 months post op and down 85 pounds. I think my goal should be somewere between 160 and 180 but I am just not sure that is enough. Anyone else out there with same stats and can tell me where they stopped and how they came to that decision. Should I just let my body tell me when I get there? I am afraid it will lie to me like it always has..LOL    — Vitabella (posted on June 4, 2004)

Janeen, congrats on your weight loss journey! As far as "goal weight" Don't put so much pressure on yourself, choose the highest range for your appropriate height when you meet that goal, see how you feel, if you want to lower your goal weight, go for it! Look at it this way, you said you started out at 300 plus pounds...if you got down to anywhere between 160 and 180, and you decided you wanted to go lower do you think anyone out there could talk to you out it? Just wait till get to that bridge and then deal with it then, until that time, enjoy your journey! Good Luck! Sherry

My surgeon chose a goal weight that would bring me into a healthy BMI (the top of the range). Personally, I chose a goal size because you really don't know how big you're going to be at what size until you get there. Oddly enough, my size goal and his weight goal turned out to match pretty well.

My original goal weight was 150. I'm 5'5 and now weigh 120-125. Just remember everyone is different. Best of luck

I am glad you posted this. I wonder the same thing as well.My start weight was 297 I am now 157. I have gone from a 24 jean to a 10. The doc set my goal weight at 175(yippee I past that)but the dietitien wants me at 145(her and I have issues). When you figure our bones are denser from being obese for so long, and makes it so you weigh more at a smaller size. Just a thought. When I was young I looked sickly at 145 so I am going to talk about this with my doc as well. Good luck to you.

I have several goals-- 199 180 160 After 160 if I am still fat, I'll see from there. I have a very petit frame even though I am not short. Small boned.

I am about 5'5 1/2", started at 270 and currently weigh 148. As a pre-op and new post-op I had a goal of 130 lbs while my Dr's goal for me was 125 (that seems unrealistic). I know that I definitely want to lose another 10 lbs but I'm not sure about anything beyond that. I have tried to stop obsessing with a particular weight and also, like a previous poster said, focus on a size. I am in a Ladies 10, Juniors 11 right now and would love to drop one more size and I'm guessing that will be about 10 lbs. One thing to remember....we all carry our weight differently. Most people think I weigh less than I do because I'm muscular. I bet you will know your goal when you are close to it!!! Good luck! :)

I am 5'5. I started at 314. I am 2+ years out and have settled in at 160. I'm not real concerned about it though, because at 160, I am wearing a comfortable size 6. How - I don't know??!! I had a TT a month ago and am thinking that I may end up a few pounds lighter in the coming months, but I really think my body has found it's "set point". I did get down to 140 several months ago and I looked gaunt and unhealthy. I look healthier and have more energy and pep at this current weight. But, as everyone has pointed out -- to each his own. Our bodies are so different and we have to make our own path! Good luck!

My "goal" was 150 (I am 5'4) and my surgeon was happy with that weight. I weigh 129 right now, 16 months post op. I wear sizes 2 and 4. I have not had plastics (yet). My body is just going where it wants to go. Personally, I was thrilled when I got to under 200, lol. Oh, I forgot to mention that my starting weight was 304.

I'm 5' 4.5" inches. Started out at 276 and currently sitting at 163. I wear a size 12 and if I had a tummy tuck, would be in a 10. My butt and my legs have disappeared! Since I never in my life remember wearing anything less than a very tight size 14, I'd be happy if I never lost another pound. My personal goal is 150 though and my surgeon never set a goal, just asked me where I'd like to end up. 145 is "normal" weight for my height so I may try to go there but don't plan to kill myself getting there. People are already telling me I don't need to lose anymore, I think I do, but maybe only 10 pounds or so.

I'm still pre-op, but my PCP wants me to reach about 125. I'd like to see at least 135, but I'd be ecstatic to see anything that begins with a 1.

I am 5'5" and started out at 304. My surgeon refuses to give you a goal weight, she says it sets people up for disappointment if they don't reach it so you need to set your own. I wanted to get to 175, sounded like a good number and something I thought I could achieve. But in the back of my mind was my "dream" weight of 150. After I got to 175 I could see I definitely wasn't going to be happy there and wanted to lose more. Now I weigh 146 and, which snuck me right in that healthy range on the bmi chart so I felt I achieved my ultimate goal. I can say I am very happy at this weight and wear a size 10, which I like. So, what I guess I'm trying to say is everyone is different, even though we may weigh the same, we all carry it differently. You just know when you get there if you are happy or not.

Just another perspective here. I started at 335. My "goal" weight was 144--not my doctor's, who told me that anything under 200 was a success, but mine "in my head". I never got there. I got to 155, 11 pounds over, took a look in the mirror, and decided I had gone too far. I didn't look well, too gaunt. Fortunately, my body took care of it, and doing exactly what I had been doing all along, I slowly put back about 10 pounds. I'm now at about 165, wearing mostly size 10 (occasional 8, occasional 12) and happy as can be.
