Question:
Side effects of IUD

I just read the question regaring pain with IUD. My question is does anyone have any side effects from it. I had one (copper one) inserted about 3 months ago. And at times I have alot of discharge (not daily) and no odor. Is this normal? I dont feel very secure with it. Im so scared Ill get pregnant and gain my weight back. So Im going to see a plastic surgeon next week and talk to her about getting my tubes tied while haveing tummy tuck. I have 2 kids and DO NOT want any more. RNY 4/2/03 262/145    — Carrie W. My question is does anyone have any side effects from it. Yes! My 20 year old daughter <smile> After that surprise I had my tubes tied when she was a year old

Just my opinion but I would not have a PS do a tubal. I would have the tubal done and then shortly after that a TT. I had a tubal on Dec 23, 2003 and then 2 months later on Feb 23rd I had my LBL. All of my WLS and tubal scars were cut off with the LBL. The tubal was quick. I was at the surgery center a total of about 3-4 hours and then home. I was just a little sore but able to make it to my mom's for Christmas and help out as much as usual.

I've had an IUD in place since 1995. Just went to the GYN last month and everything is fine - they're good for 10 years. I've had no problems whatsoever. your periods may be a little heavier, but that's about it.

Yes, I had two different ones and ended up with Pelvic Inflamitory Disese. Stayed in the hopital for 4 days on heavy antibiotics and was told it reduced my chances of pregnancy. The pain was so bad, I thought I was going to die! While the IUD was in, I cramped more and heavier bleeding. Since I was forgetful, I thought this was better than the Pill, but if I had to do over again, I would stick with the Pill, patch or something else. Good luck, Ramona

Please talk to your gyn about this! #1 While i'm not trying to negate the experiences of the women who posted here, most who have had past bad experiences used the earlier, less reliable and more risky incarnations of the IUD -- over the past 10 years, the design, safety and reliability of the IUD has vastly improved; #2 The only birth control that's 100% effective is abstinence (although the IUD is MORE effective than the birth control pill or patch); #3 the majority of women throughout Europe and Asia use the IUD as their main form of birth control; and #4 There have been posters here in the past who have given out false and misleading information about IUDs in the past because of their political beliefs and misunderstanding of how the IUD actually works. <B>THE VERY BEST PLACE TO GET THE ACTUAL, FACTUAL INFORMATION ABOUT IUDs IS FROM YOUR OB/GYN.</B> I urge you to find your answers there, and not from us. Good luck to you in whatever you decide.

no discharge isnt that normal, please call your gyno , i have an iud, and it is fine for me, i do notice that on occasion there is some pain in ummm... certain positions... but that has decreased at time has went on, i had a lot of sensitivity the first 3-4 months, as for effectiveness... i had one after my son was born , he is fifteen , i had it removed at 10 years just like i was supposed to , and since i was remarried it made sense, and i now have a lovely daughter who will be 4 in a month , i just had a new iud done last year ( i had been usign the pill) before surgery, because my doctor reccomends only the IUD for pregnancy control post op. my husband is making noises about a baby, but since i have my two, and he has 3 , i just dont want to get it removed, plus, he understands that for at least another year its not a question.... please talk with your doctor about your issues, many have had negative experiences with the IUD and they tend to drown out those who have positive experiences with it ! since its the squeaky wheel thing , you know B

I have researched the Mirena IUD and will discuss it with my OB/GYN in a couple of weeks when I go for my 6 week postpartum check up. I just wanted to address the weight gain with pregnancy comment. I gave birth less than 2 weeks ago. I gained about 40 pounds. I have since lost all of it and it looks like it will keep going ( I was about 15 pounds from goal when I got pregnant). Just wanted to let the women know that pregnancy after WLS does not mean you will gain your weight back.
