Question:
Please advise if the cost of the Adjustable Lap Band Procedure is less than RNY.
The reason for this question is that the procedure apparently does not take as long to complete. — Diane I. (posted on May 24, 2004)

I don't know about cost, but I just had a Lap Band done last Monday and I
feel great, no aches,no pains. I went in on Monday out on Wednesday. The
worst was the next day and it got beter everyday after that. I am not sure,
but aren't RNY and Lap Band two totally different operations? My Lap Band
is totally reversible, I beleive RNY is ont reverisbile. You really should
consult with you r doctor on which procedure is best for you!
Good Luck!

In the beginning it is cheeper. But all the fills and follow ups after
will make up for that difference. My girl friend just found out that they
get $600 for each fill. Wow

It's got to be tons cheaper as it is a way less invasive surgery. Usually
it's only a 1 day hospital stay also. Even with the fills it's still going
to be cheaper.

This wouldn't be the time to post the old adage, "You get what you pay
for", would it?

Yes the Lapband is less expensive. Mine was $12000 for surgery and
hospital. (5000 for surgeon) My fills are $150 each. I have had 2 in 6
months. My ins covers them under floroscope (which is like an xray) As far
as Steves response Maybe you should know the facts before you speak. Maybe
people chose the Lapband for other reasons, I chose it because my sister
had the RYN and died 58 days later due to complications (she was 5'3"
260lbs,50 years old, degenerative joint disease only comorb. in need of
both knees replaced but surgeon wouldn't do it till she lost the weight.)
She had just adopted 3 little boys 4 months before she died. I didn't do
the ryn because of my family and all they had been through when Rhonda
died. So maybe in the future you should think before you speak. Mary -60lbs
