Question:
Can I fly with my staples?

I had surgery 4/3/04 - open rny - no problems or complications thus far. An emergency situation came up and family not able to drive back home to have staples removed tomorrow. Is it okay to fly?    — SJ H. (posted on April 15, 2004)

You MUST call your surgeon and ask!! Being a new postie flying has hazards, made worse if its a long flight. First theres the blood clot risk from sitting too long in a too small seat:( You MUST get up and move about the cabin as much as possible! When seated exercise your legs/ The clooot risk is made worse because the cabins air humidity is ZERO PERCENT at cruising altitude. Everyone tends to looe moisture fast when flying, so sip sip sip and sip some more! Given all this new posties return home from mexico and other countries all the time. It can be done and being two weeks out its safer since thats the main time for complications. Do allow lots of extrra time for security your sstaples will set off the metal detectors:( Yoo will be looked at closely, thats good as its for everyones safety. Hope yur family trouble works out ok.

I dont know about flying; BUT if all you need is to have the staples taken out.. this is a FAST and simple procedure that is usually done by the nurse. Why not call your PCP and see if their office can do it? It doesn take your 'surgeon' to do this.
