Question:
Need support for sister who has leak from lap rny.

You guys/gals have been so great for me. I am asking prayer for my siter who is now in hospital having the surgery. She had it 03/29/04 and had major pain from get go. I had surgery two months ago and never had one once of trouble. I am down 55 pounds and she had surgery after me so we could go threw this together as we are very close. BEST Friends. Well her pain never stoped and only got worse today and they finally decided she had a leak and they rushed her back to surgery. They had some mechanical problems during surgery yesterday but he seemed to think all was well. Anyway ... she is in SICU over night and feeling better but still very scared to death. I have been by her bedside nonstop since 6 am yesterday. Please pray for her healing and that God will just wrap his arms around her and keep her calm and safe over night. I am very worried as I had no pain or complications and now she has had nothing but both. I love this surgery and want her to be as happy as I am. I'm just scared for her.    — Vitabella (posted on March 30, 2004)

Praying for you and your sister. She will feel better now that the problem is fixed. Even though SICU is scary it's the best place to be, they know what they are doing there!

Please know that your sister and you are in my prayers. I understand how you are feeling. My sister in law and I had our surgery almost two months apart we were happy to be going through this together. But, 4 days after my surgery which was 2/2/04 My sister in law past away. don't woory it was not the surgery, she had cadiac myopathy. But one week after my surgery I developed a leek and also had to go back to the hospital. My doctor had also scheduled me for surgery to fix it but then him and a gastro Dr. scoped me instead and they were able to fix the leek that way. Today I have to go back in for another scope because I now have a stricture from where the leek healed and caused scar tissue. But I am doing well. and have lost almost 50lbs.. Keep thinking very positive. Not but what if... and you will be fine. Again you and your sister will be in my prayers. God Bless...

Your sis will most definitely be in my prayers. I also wanted to pass along this from another support board I belong to. It is information on a WLS Complication Prayer List that one of the members is putting together. It has the information you need to get on the list. Best wishes to your family. http://www.spotlighthealth.com/common/SG/posts.asp?m=1&sb2=&sb=6&tp=112905&tpN=Coming%20Together:%20General%20Surgery%20Support

I will be praying for you and your sister though this difficult time. Try to keep a positive attitude and be sure that she see that in you as you are her strength right now. This, I am sure is a very scarey time for you both because we all know how these complications can be. Know that your sisters and brothers here on this site will be praying for you and look forward to hearing how great you are both doing. Love, Debbie D.

Your sister is in my prayers. I had surgery almost 3 years ago and also had a leak. It was not nice, and was extremely depressing, since I was the only person I knew personally who had a leak (and I had several friends have surgery). So keep that in mind....all wounds heal in time, and despite the ordeal I went through...mostly emotional, angry stuff...I'm very grateful for my surgery. The pain itself was the most horrible I've ever expirienced, but thankfully very short lived once the leak healed shut. God Bless. -Kim open RNY 7/17/01 -140 and half the woman I used to be.

Your sister is in my prayers along with yourself. I myself had the same problem with leakage and the not knowing why was worse than the pain...I came out of it absolutely fine and I know in my heart that your sister will also find the strength she needs to pull through. I'll keep you both in my prayers and thoughs.. Deborah
