Question:
How many calories to maintain?
Im pretty close to my goal weight of 140. Im at 147 now, Im happy if I dont lose anymore. So I was just wondering about how many calories people eat to maintain there weight at this point. Thanks — Carrie W. (posted on March 25, 2004)

This is different for each individual depending on your resting metabolic
rate. My surgeon does a test in his office to determine this number, which
will tell you approximately 70% of the calories you can supposedly consume
and maintain your weight without exercise. Mine was 1340 calories, then
calculate an additional 30% of that. Not too hard to manage at all. Good
luck!

a very NON scientific .. but easy formula to use.. which seems to come in
slightly under what I've seen elsewhere is to multiply the weight you want
to be by 11 (I'd use 12 if you exercise) and that's how many calories you
need each day to just maintain that weight if you're not very active...
I've heard that in my group meetings. Good luck
