Question:
Please share with me your experiences with Lap Band.
I would also like to know the risks of lap band surgery as there is little information on the internet about this topic. — Melanie N. (posted on March 5, 2004)

I got the lapband about 11 months ago and I love it. I have been
struggling a bit, but I know what my problems are. The surgery itself was
very easy. I was self-pay and went to Mexico. I did take a week off, but
I could have easily have gone back to work after several days off. I lost
50 pounds in the first few months, then 25 more in the next several months.
I have been going up and down (just a few pounds) the last few months. I
need to get another fill, then I will back to losing. <p>
It is really important to do a ton of research so you will know exactly
what you are getting yourself into. My life with my lapband is not very
difficult, but it is a bit different. I will post some of the support
groups for the band. Check them out, and read their archives. You will
find a TON of information there.. Email me if you have any questions...

Hi Melanie,
I had LapBand August 22, 2003, and could not be happier with my decision.
It was a last minute decision, as I was going to have RNY. It was just
that the more info I got on banding, the more comfortable I was with that
idea. There is a wealth of information out there for you. Try this link

I have had some difficulties, but it was minor, and my own fault... I knew
what I was doing wrong when I did it. I have lost almost 100 pounds, and
my personal goal is to lose another 100 pounds, but I'd be thrilled to
death to lose 80 more. :0) Best of luck to you. If I can help in any
other way, feel free to email me at [email protected] I'm not online
very much, but I do check email. :0)

Hi, I had the Lapband surgery just last week, 3/2/04. I am so excited for
this new way of life I have chosen. I had a very easy time with the
operation, had hardly any pain. I am on the liquid phase right now, and
have lost about 3 pounds. I did A LOT of research for about 18 months
before my surgery, so I had my head on straight. The Lapband is only a
tool. It isn't a magic wand. I agree with the other posters on visiting
spotlighthealth.com I visit the support group there every day and have
learned a ton of valuble information from those wonderful people. Good
luck in your journey what ever you may decide! May God bless you.
