Question:
I suddenly feel like my clothes are getting tighter though scale hasn't moved

I'm almost 14 months postop and haven't lost any weight in months. I tend to stay within an "okay" 5 lb range about 10 lbs from goal. I haven't fallen over myself to lose the final 10 lbs because I've been okay with my weight and my clothing size and have been maintaining my weight without a lot of effort. I am seeing an endocrinologist for hypoglycemia so my food is sometimes completely out of whack trying to control that episodic nightmare. However, I do weigh myself every day to be sure that I'm staying in range. I'm still in that range, I am actually at the lower end of the 5 lb flux and yet my clothes suddenly feel tighter. I feel like I'm "wider" and wonder if my skin is getting looser or something. I can't explain it but I feel like I'm getting bigger without gaining weight. Is this possible? Normal for a postop at 1 year?    — susanje (posted on February 24, 2004)

I have similar questions. I'll be one year out next week and have not lost in 5 months. I am fine with my size and weight although sometimes I feel "huge" -pretty funny considering I'm 100 pounds lighter. I think this may be a little normal, but I also think that normal no longer applies to us.

I think our shapes keep evolving. I suddenly have hips, after having none all my life. Not huge hips, but enough that it makes it actually appear that I have a waist. First there was Butt Be Back around the 3 yr, then this widening of the hips about the 7th year. Odd, huh? I just never know what I'll look like tomorrow. Of course, I don't know what I look like today, either. sigh

Just a thought, are you possibly retaining water?

I had the same experience. When I was about 1 year post-op after losing from the top down, I was excited to have a waist. I have always been an apple, but after losing my weight, I suddenly had a figure. Then my waist started getting wider, and my thighs got smaller, all without the scale moving. I asked a similar question about this here. I finally concluded that after our bodies finish shedding the weight, our bodies redistribute our weight to the figure we are supposed to have. I am back to an apple, thicker in the middle with skinny legs, but 100 lbs. lighter. I miss having a waist!

Have you changed or taken a break from an exercise routine? If I don't work a muscle area for a little bit, though I haven't gained weight, that area will be flabbier. Just a thought.

I had this happen when I stopped exercising for awhile. Things got bigger, but my weight stayed the same.
