I think you it sounds like you would benefit from the wls,I never had a lot of medical problem's other then low back pain and weak knees and ankles before my wls, which was from the excess weight,I did have a few problem's afterwards, but I am doing well now, I had my surgery 02/27/02 and I lost 162 pounds and over 120 inches,, I am 5'4" tall and I weighed 270+ pounds when I started my journey, I now weigh 108 pounds, I suggest you talk more to your doctor about this, and if you PCP recommends the wls Insurance should cover it, mine did,, check out my profile and if you would like to keep in touch, e-mail me, I will be glad to help you anyway I can!!! my profile is under dizzy one

I know two people personaly who have MS who have had the rny. Both are doing awesome! One of them comes into the chatroom almost every am, her name is debraNY. She was wheelchair bound pre op and now is walking :) The other one was on two canes pre op. doing awesome also. The weightloss really helped with the balance issues. Both had a esaserbation (sp) just after the surgery but are doing so good. Stop by the chatroom sometime in the am and talk to debra i am sure she will be able to answer any questions you have regarding the MS and rny. kristi ky

Hiya Barb! My name is Debra and I have MS as well as having had WLS. I was 323 pounds and 5ft 6in, and lots of co-morbids. I had the surgery on August 27, 2002. I have a life now. My MS is soooooooooooooooooo much better and I am out of the wheelchair. My Diabetes was really the culpruit for making my life more miserable. I am living a so much more productive and quality life having had the surgery! I would also talk to my neuro about it. However, I feel the decison is a personal one. I was really desperate and figured I had nothing left to loose. It worked for me and all my doctors went along with me! RNY was the miracle for me. Feel free to Email me at [email protected].

I was dx'd with MS 9 years ago. Because of the weight that I had to drag around, i could only walk just a few feet on my own before my legs gave out. I had no life outside of my small house. My body was to big to drag around, all of this weight exhausted me. When I had WLS on April 14, 2003 I weighed 370. I have lost 173 pounds and have a life. I do have a drag in my left leg when I get tired, but I can walk again. I am no longer a prisoner in my house. Life is so good. Go for it.
