Question:
Has anybody weighed themselves three to four times a day on the scale.
I don`t over want to be morbidly obese again and I do this to keep close tabs on my weight. I really watch what I put in my mouth but I cannot stay away from the scale. I am almost 10 months out and have reached my goal weight. Any advice would be very much appreciated. — Marti M. (posted on January 23, 2004)

I do the same thing. I know that we should only weight once a week or less.
Like you I am obessed about it. I am only 3 months out. I wish I could help
you. All I can say is you are not alone. Keep up the good work and keep the
faith.

Marti - I'm 13 months out and weigh every time I pass the scales (they're
in my bathroom). I don't get excited by the fluctuations (I know they're
gonna happen), but I refuse to gain the weight back. I like to keep a
close (too close?) check. As long as you don't let it drive you crazy, I
think you're ok. BTW, I fluctuate anywhere between 3-5 pounds during the
day. Some days less, some more. But I'm learning more about my body by
doing this. Good luck to you. Lisa 241/133/125

I too hop on the scale every time I pass it. My children think it is the
funniest thing. They say things like "Mom, have you lost any weight in
the last 2 hours?" I am 9 mo postop and have done this since I got
home from the hosp. Can you say obsessive?

I weigh every single morning and every night, and sometimes jump on the
scale during the day- I think being a slave to ths scale is a bad
thing...But on the other hand, it DOES help keep me "honest"
during the day- I am SOOOOOOOOOOO petrified of gaining weight- (not so
concerned about losing) Just know, that the scale will go up and down
certain times of the month...so don't panic (like I do LOL)

I weigh every morning. It HAS to be first thing after my shower and before
I have breakfast. I even make sure I comb my hair first cause you never
know if those tangles weigh more. :) I keep a record of my weight and I
know if I've been on the up side for more than 3 days I have to get on the
ball. I am so scared of being fat again. I have nightmares that I will
wake up and be in my old body. That fear keeps me honest. ~Sidney~ Open

I weigh first thing in the morning, every morning. Usually dropping
between half a lb to 2 lbs a day. I am 10 weeks post-op. I know when I
eat something wrong because I don't lose anything at all.

I don't see anything wrong with weighing every day. (And who among us does
not like to see those much lower numbers!)I weigh every day, and so does my
DH who has also had WLS,a nd we each record our weight on a graph. It
really does keep us honest. I know if I have pizza or bread (or any blob of
carbs) the scale will be up the next day. Seeing it go up even a couple of
pounds is a warning. Now, getting on several times a day is pushing it, but
if it makes you happy, do it, but if you don't stress about fluctuations,
that's fine!

I get on my digital scale EVERY MORNING! I have even gotten on it before I
used the restroom in the morning, use the restroom, then got back on it to
see how much my urine weighed! And I do not record my morning weight until
I have done all of my peeing and bowl moments during the early morning. I
am, of course, butt naked. I will even take out hair barrettes if I
suspect I that every little thing counts. I do not eat or drink until I
record my weight. I have come home from work and taken off all of my
cloths and you know I have my pre-bedtime weigh in. I have always weighed
myself. I am very comfortable with doing this regularly and it helps me to
be held accountable for the choices I have made that day.

I would love to say that it is a habit that will go away...but for me it
doesn't. I am two years out and I weight twice a day. :)

At just about one year now, the obsession is starting to taper off. Mostly
because I have been going round and round with the same few pounds for
weeks now and I am no longer so 'excited' to see what my 'friend' the scale
has to say to me today. I do still weigh at least once a day...but, that
is down from 3-4 times a day. I wouldn't worry about it too much....I
figured that it had to be a lot better for me than my former friend...food.
Good luck to you!

I, too, have to weigh every am, after bathroom functions and stark naked!
I used to also weigh when I got home from work but have broken that one.
The am one I will keep for life as like the others, it is my barometer if I
am straying from my 3 pound window and need to take corrective action, and
I am almost 2 years post-op.

Yes, I weigh at least 2 times a day. The way I see it is when I weighed 300
I didn't get on a scale for 10 years so now I have alot of catching up to
do.

Hello, I am at 6 months post op, and the only time I ever weigh is when I
go to the doctor. maybe once or twice in between, but I try to stay away
from the scale. I think that having come as far as i have I shouldn't be
obsessing about my weight like I was when I was 80 pounds heavier. (not
saying its a bad thing to weigh every day!!! don't get me wrong! :-)) thats
just my personal feelings for myself. anyways, God Bless, and congrats on
the loss so far!

I am still going *huh?* over the check for sugar statement because we weigh
ourselves but I also weigh every time I pass a scale, even at friends
houses in bathroom (who knows there scale maybe different LOL...I know my
weight changes during the day and thats ok, I just get a kick out of seeing
numbers I have not seen for YEARS

I guess I can't relate to this question. I weight myself once a week at the
gym (before exercise) and once a month at the hospital (weight and body fat
count). I do not own a scale and will never own a scale. You can drive
yourself crazy. If you exercise and watch what you eat you should be fine.
Toss the scale!
