Question:
Anyone get a part time job for the exercise?
The long cold winter is tough:( I have been thinking of getting a part time job to help keep active and get more exercise. Theres a new grocery store opening nearby. Anyone do this. It might be better to get paid to exercise than pay for the exercise:):) — bob-haller (posted on January 8, 2004)

I actually did apply to our local grocery store for that reason and the
fact we needed a little extra income. They weren't hiring for what I
wanted but a new grocery store opened up a couple of miles away. I was
going to apply there too but they had hundreds of applicants turn out so
early that they turned people away. :( Anyway, I think it's a great idea.
Not only will it give you exercise, some extra income, it will keep you
busy so the temptations of grazing (my problem) will be lowered. I did
find a part time job but it's the nursery at my church so it's a sedentary
job. Oh well, it's not the physical workout I had hoped for but it works
for me in other ways. Good Luck!

Winters here in vermont are HORRID- I actually took on a few housecleaning
jobs FOR THE PURPOUS OF EXERCISE- (well of course the few extra dollars
comes in handy too) But I will continue them during the winter to try to
keep moving a little.

Bob, I have done it. I've worked 2 jobs over the Holidays for several
years now, but this year I did it for a better reason... ME. Your
situation and where you want to work is totally personal, but I do mine in
retail. Having to buy so many new things so often, the discount has helped
tremendously. There is no place to sit unless you're down in the break
room so I'm on my feet & busy, busy, busy. It has been WONDERFUL! Now
that the busy season is over, they've asked me to stay on. I won't get as
many hours, but every hour I'm up & about helps me in more ways than I
can say. In the winter it is too easy to become a couch potato!
Best wishes!!!

I waited tables through high school and college and it is a workout!! Plus
the money is pretty good if you work at a busy place.

Thanks I will apply today. Pre op I had that SAD seasonal effective
disorder. It was HORRID. Its not nearly as bad but I am having trouble
motivating myself to keep active:( Figure some nice work stocking shelves
will take care of that. Beyond whic I have been self empoloyeed for TWENTY
YEARS! From time to time I think about moving to Florida, where its nice
and warm, since I am always freezing. Now if I move I had in mind getting a
job at disney, my favorite place. But after so long I have NO idea what its
like to work for someone else. My friends think I couldnt do it. So I have
a curosity to find out. Beyond which a few tra bucks never hurt. But
exercise is important/ I NEVERE want to get fat again!

I have had a part time job, just for the exercise, since August 2003. I
work 2 days a week at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. I run the
'tunnel' underneath the park on the 2 days I work. I get alot of exercise
(my only exercise sometimes) when I work at the MK.
It's also cool to work there because no one there knew me heavy - so it
kinda feels like I'm leading a secret double life as a thin person!

UPS has part time and seasonal positions...may be too late now for the
seasonal positions...Pays really good money w/ benefits and you load trucks
or "run" packages to peoples doors....I was a metermaid for 12
years...If you don't mind ruining people's days you could walk all
day....It's also where I injured my back in several accidents and could no
longer do such a physical job...I miss that job...being outside all day.

I decided to get a retail job a few years ago for the money and for the
exercise. I was getting some exercise, but more standing still than I
expected - moving from aisle to aisle wasn't much exercise - too slow.
Since I was around junk food all the time, I tended to eat more poorly when
working, especially since the breaks were short. I had to eat fast. Now
that I'm a post-op, I am hoping the added exercise and food restrictions
will keep me on track at work, rather than helping me gain weight. Good
luck.

i was thinking about working at a gym or something like that....plus you
can use the gym from free if you do this! another thing i was thinking
about was working for a clothing store part-time to get a discount on
clothing.
