Question:
can I eat shrimp everyday?

I eat shrimp cocktail everyday. It is usually about 6 shrimp. I know I am not overeating since that is my whole meal. My question really is: Is it harmful to eat shrimp everyday? Has anyone had a problem with eating that much shrimp. I know it is good protein. I seem to do better with shrimp than even chicken. I am 7 months out.    — Toni W. (posted on January 8, 2004)

I eat shrimp at least 4 or 5 times a week, have since I was about 3 weeks out. My doctor says to eat it as often as I like since it is good protein.

I ate shrimp everyday during the months I was losing most of my weight. I craved it! I only ate it grilled though and without any sauces, just my grilled veggies. I am at my goal weight now and have been for almost three months now. But even these days I will have grilled jumbo shrimp about 2 or 3 times a week.

Shrimp have been a great food for me. I am a gout sufferer, but since the surgery, with the proper medicine, Shrimp and Cocktail Sauce are a staple. LAP-RNY 10/8/02 down 134. Basically at goal.

shrimp is a great souce of protein, but it is high in cholestral, so unless you have a problem with your cholestaral, or start to have high cholestral, I say go for it. I just went to Red Lobster last night and had the shrimp scampi and the crab stuffed flounder, actually my husband had that meal, I just took alittle from his plate...lol...

Let's just say there is usually at least 10 lbs of shrimp in my freezer. If I get down a few bags then I get more. There have been some great sales lately so I stock up. It has been a main staple of my eating since around 2-3 weeks PO. Some days it's 2 meals. I eat it almost every day. Cholesterol is down to 138 so it certainly isn't causing any problems.

Watch out for a gout flare up possibly from the iodine content.

I too eat a lot of shrimp. I go to the health food store and buy sugar free ketchup and add a little splenda, a few drops of lemon juice and horseradish. The sugar free ketchup helps eliminate sugar intake. It's definately better than eating the shrimp plain!
