Question:
How long to wait for surgery?
My sister wants to have surgery after she has her baby. How long do you have to wait? Thanks. — Marie N. (posted on December 8, 2003)

I was approved for WLS through Kiaser but I was PREGNANT! I was told to
wait 4-6 months after giving birth. As it turns out, I needed to wait more
like 6-8 months because I had a C-Section. In the meantime, she can still
get the ball rolling by making sure her doctor's all know she still wants
the surgery and by completing any paperwork she can ahead of time (she
won't be able to complete labs until after she is pregnant). Also remember
that any difficulties she has during her pregnancy due to her obesity
qualifies as a co-morbidity (I had pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes and
the c-section was due to MO). Good luck and tell her to hang in there! You
can both email me if you want more info!
