Question:
Pre-op protein too low for surgery

My sister-in-law really wants to have the surgery but was told that her blood protein levels are too low to allow surgery. They told her to add protein shakes to her daily diet. After 3 months her levels have gone from 2.9 to 3.0! Has anyone else had this problem and is there anything else she can do to raise her levels.? Thank you for any help you can provide!    — mariew (posted on December 1, 2003)

Did they give her/tell her what type of protein supplements to use? What is she using? How much protein is she getting a day?

There is a liquid protein that she can take called proteinex. She takes just like 2 tblsps , there is also a liquid drink called Isopure zerocarb protein, it has 40gms protein per 20oz bottle. Here are some links and I wish her luck!! http://www.llorenspharm.com/proteinex.htm and http://www.loseforless.com/isopure.html Lisa Hackenburg (postop lap/rny 10-23-03) 331/291/141? Ps. if she is having problems now with her protein levels, how will she be able to keep them appropriate after surgery? I know that it is harder to get the protein in postop because of the limitations in quantity and absorbtion.
