I was on pureed food also when I left the hospital. And I went by the rule
if I could mush with a fork it was okay . Then I chew everything really
well.

I also had soft, pureed food in hospital. I only stayed on this for about
about a week post op. When I went to my dr, he said I could try different
things to see if I could tolerate them. Sounds like you are doing fine.
As long as your "puree-ing" it with your teeth, it's the same
thing. I found that fish was especially easy to tolerate. FF refried beans
went down well too. So keep up the good work.

You really should follow your doctor's instructions. Follow what your
doctor says. I know you want someone else to just tell you it's fine, but
doctors have their after care plans for a reason, what might be fine for
one doctor's patients may not be fine for anothers. Call your doctor's
office and talk to them, ask them if it's ok. While this site is great, my
doctor made it really clear to me, while she really likes this site for
it's support, that I was to follow her instructions, and not other
memeber's on this site. After all, she is the one who's a doctor.

I agree with the previous poster. Is it okay? Well hmm, lets see, I
chewed peanuts into peanut butter on the trip home from the hospital
postop. Was this ok? Heck, no! Did it anyway and came away ok with it,
but I KNEW it was a not-so-good idea and don't recommend anyone do it.
I've heard so many horror stories of people having to have things removed
that got stuck. Not pretty. I've wised up a lot with more research. I
hope you go back to puree. Can't you toss the crab meat in your blender?
Canned corned beef is pureed and wonderful tasting and you feel like your
chewing it. Tuna is easy to puree. Well anyway, good luck!
