Tanya, Congrats on your 12 lbs. That is exactly what I had lost in my 1st week too. I started at 250# and am 4 months out and down 76# now. Expect a little plateu around week three. Everyone does. Don't jump ahead of yourself worrying about too much protein yet. I could only have milk the first two weeks, that helped get in some protein, just drink the 1% or fat free. I also drank water and chicken or beef broth and sugar free jello and popscicles. When I went to pureed foods, I had cottage cheese, refried beans with a little cheese, scrambled eggs and yogurt, mashed potatoes, oatmeal. you know, mushy stuff. This is such an awesome experience. Write for ongoing encouragement and questions at my e-mail if you wish.

I honestly can't remember what I lost the first week - I think it was around 13 or 14 pounds. I'm 10 weeks out now, and have lost 43 so far. I'm happy with that, but I always remind myself not to compare with others. Everyone is very different, and we all lose at different rates. My surgeon's protocol is clear liquids for 10 days to 2 weeks, so I didn't have to worry about protein then. I was cleared to start pureed foods at my first appt, which was about 11 days after surgery. Just concentrate on staying hydrated - it's very important! Try to get in as much liquid as possible. I used diluted Crystal Light, water, diluted orange juice, chicken and beef broth, jello, popsicles (sugar free). That's about all you need to worry with at this point. BTW, I started at 254 also. Good luck and remember, it will keep getting better!!

I lost 20 lbs at 10 days out and my surgeon and I were both amazed. I am currently 26 months out and am down 146 lbs. I started out at 276lbs and 5'4 and now 136lbs size 6-8. Keep up the good work and congratulations. I am not sure about the protein intake. You should still be on liquids so, just drink up your shakes and fluids as you can.
