Question:
Is there any approved fiber supplement that GBS patients can tolerate?
My concern is that most of the fiber supplements that are available, take at least 1 8oz glass of water along with the fiber whether it be powder, pill or cookie. What is safe to use to avoid having intestinal difficulties? — banana63 (posted on October 31, 2003)

Hi. My surgeon gave me the fiber called Consul. It's available at Walmart
and other places. :)

I can't say enough good things about Benefiber. I put it in my SF hot
cocoa, hot decaf tea, no sugar added OJ. The list is endless! I take it
2x's per day (am & pm). It has done wonders for my regularity as I
must take iron and that can really block up the works! You should try it!
Sams club carries it and that's definitely the best value I've seen. Best
wishes to your success! Shelly 7/03 lap/rny 231/176

Do not take anything without discussing with your surgeon if you are an
early post-op. I was having problems at about 3-4 weeks and wanted to use
something and he freaked, as there is a ton of concern of the fiber sitting
in your pouch and expanding. I imagine I could use it now at 9 months, but
he sure did not want me to at 3-4 weeks. He told me to use stool softener
- no laxative, which did help but thruthfully not as well as a fiber
supplment would have. But enough to improve the situation and get the
stuff moving out.
