I think everyone wonders if they are eating too much! I know I was able to eat much more than I expected to be able to eat. I talking with others, this has been their experience also. My surgeon says it is not possible to stretch your pouch. Some may disagree with this as I have heard other things from reliable sources. I have also heard that the part of the stomach used to create your new pouch is not very pliable so that stretching is difficult to accomplish. It is very important that you not drink during meals, or have just a sip or two. And don't drink for one hour after you eat or for 30 minutes before you eat. This will help you feel full longer. The main thing is to listen to your body and when you start to feel full, stop eating. Good luck. It sounds like you are doing fine!

I agree with Ann , my surgeon has never seen a pouch stretch in 20 years of surgeries and studies, what he states is that your pouch begins to work better as time goes and and becomes more efficient in digesting your food. Thus an increase in your consumption. If we stick with avoiding drinking with meals we will eat less. I need to heed my own advice... :) Watch your calories for a few days and you will see that you are not getting in much at all. Good luck. MaryLyn

You don't want to drink after you eat for two reason: 1. You push the food that is in your stomach out when you drink and eat. 2. When you eat the food takes it time before it gets to your stomach. If you drink you can force that food to form a plug and then that liquid will back up and you can get sick. I'm 6 months post-op and here are a few of the things I do that help me get over the 1 1/2 hour wait before I can drink anything. - Try SF hard candy - Try SF Popsicle (15 cal.)
