Well for one thing I relaxed and did'nt care if I lost hair or not. Dang,
my hair is even more discustingly curly as a post op so I just shave it
off. But anyway I did'nt do protein shakes. As a new post op (first 2-3
months) I lived on meats and cheeses. Don't know if that was the reason I
had no hair loss. But my blood protein level was 8.2! :)

I didnt really do anything i dont think. I did do sf carnation instant
breakfast and quit that once I realized how many calories it was and that
it wasnt worth it, I eat my protien (meat, cheese etc) I already had short
hair but it is naturally pretty thick. I did cut it alittle shorter and
started wearing highlights (so I even abused it too) I think maybe some
people are just lucky that way. ALSO i was a fairly slow loser--21 days
from my one year anniversery and down 97 pounds and feeling great.

Tanya...there is a vitamin called"Hair" avaiable at Wal-Mart, as
well as other places i am sure, that is wonderful for this problem. My
hair is very thin and fine. I had lap rny on 12/02/02, and have lost none
of my hair. Also I put "moisture" in my hair every time I wash.
It is avaiable at your beauty salon. It puts back the moisture in your
hair that wls takes out. Try these two rememdies and I think you will be
surprises at the results. Good Luck!!!

Well I don't know how I prevented any hairloss but I do keep up with my
protein and I also started using a different shampoo even before surgery.
I am now 10 months out and still use a shampoo (don't freak now...)called
"Placenta and Protein" from Sally's Beauty Supply. I was a
little grossed at the placenta part but I would rather smear afterbirth on
my head than lose my long hair. Something is working right.

I did lose a bunch of hair. I used Infusium shampoo toward the end and it
slowed down. I just wanted to let you know it will come back. Mine
started coming back in at 7 1/2 months. It is growing fast and is curly.
It is growing so fast and is curly now. I had straight hair before. I had
to cut my hair short when it started coming in. The new dew is to keep my
hair from sticking straight up. Relax. You may lose it, but it will come
back. I am proof of it.

Hi, Didn't loose a hair. I bleach & highlight too. I use a couple of
good shampoos & conditioners from the salon and eat a lot of meat &
cheese. I am also a slow looser-RNY 11-08-02 down 100lbs. It's kind of
funny because I have lost hair when ever I have had other surgery or any
other significant weightloss. Just blessed I guess.

Didn't do anything special at all, just never lost a hair. Lucky I guess.

I didn't have any hair loss. My surgeon's program had me doing 60 grams of
protein per day, 64 oz. of water per day or more, 2 multivitamins per day,
500 mg Vitamin B-12 and 1 Vitamin A&D per day. I had a few nausea days
where I didn't achieve all this, but 95% of the time I did. Don't know if
this was what did it or I was just lucky.

I have always had baby-fine, thin, stick-straight hair. Like a 3 year old
boy! I was deathly sick three years ago, and lost all my hair because of
that... then my best friend, a stylist, got me started on B12 and folic
acid. Then my hair grew back stronger and thicker than it had ever been.
About a year after it came back I had my Lap RNY. I had a hard time, was
only getting about 300 calories/day for about 6 months. And I didn't lose
ANY hair. And I bleach and color my hair like crazy. So I think that
building up my hair before the WLS really helped!

I,m four months out. I have not lost any hair. I colored my hair almost
right away. I take only a prenatal vitamin as my doctor perscribed and
calcium citrate.
