Question:
Nausea daily since 2wks post-op
Has anyone else experienced daily nausea, freguent vomiting, and abdominal pain 9 months after surgery? My nausea started 2 wks post-op, and every few days I start vomiting & can't keep anything down, & abdominal pain which is always in the same spot. Those are the times I have to go to the ER for IV fluids and IV pain meds and anti-nausea meds, sometimes I am even hospitalized because of the dehydration. If anyone has, please, let me know that there is an end in site! I am so nauseated every day, I can't go to work as I have the dry heaves to bad. Thanks! — Marie B. (posted on October 6, 2003)

I went through the same thing also starting at about 2 weeks post-op. I
went to my PCP and he sent me for an abdominal ultrasound to check my gall
bladder, appendix, and liver. All negative. So then he prescribed Nexium,
thinking maybe reflux, and guess what? It worked. I take one every day
and have had no problems. It took 3 weeks to diagnose, which seemed like
an eternity to me. I can't imagine 9 months of that same feeling. Please
see your PCP soon and ask for the ultrasounds and/or swallowing studies.
Good luck to you.

Have you had an endoscopy done? You might have an ulcer. Call your
surgeon.

I was like that for the 1st 5 1/2 weeks post op!! What a miserable state
to be in!! You are more patient than I am - 9 months is a long time to feel
sick to your stomach. You mentioned dry heaves are you eating what you are
supposed to?? I find that when I eat things that do not agree with me I
get dry heaves (called dumping) I am almost 3 months postop now and it gets
better everyday. If you are eating right then you need to go to your
doctor right away. Something does not sound right. Take care and God
Bless!!
