Hi Nancy. I am not forsure but I would at least wait until I was about 6-8
weeks post op before flying. My surgeon told us to try to take it easy for
about that long after surgery but every doc is diff, so I advise you to ask
your surgeon too, to see what he thought-k! Good Luck to You!

Well I had my lap RNY on a Wednesday (in LA) and took two connecting
flights home on Sunday (to CO)--no problems, I just wore sweats and moved
slow.

I had open RNY on June 4, 2002 and on June 20 flew to DC for two days and
walked ALOT with no problems.

As Kimberley experienced, there are MANY people that go out of their area
for this surgery and thus have to fly home as new post ops very soon after
surgery. If this was an unnecessary flight though you might want to put it
off. It increases your chance for blood clots from the lack of being able
to move around. If you have to though, be sure to wear support stockings
& move around as much as possible during your flight.

Air travel should be no problem. In fact many people fly home from their
surgeries. So the answer is "as soon as you can make it to the
plane!" [smile]

One thing no one mentioned here is dehydration. For every hour you are on a
plane you lose one pint of fluid. Make sure you drink plenty of water while
you are flying.
