Question:
has any one ever had to enter a WLS program before ?
I called DR. Melvin today and they told me that I had to start by entering the WLS program at OSU. — kisshell C. (posted on September 2, 2003)

Every doctor has their pre-surgical requirements before the patient is
accepted for surgery. My doctor's office (The Wish Center) requires an
eight week practice diet. I had to log all of my meals, quantities, times,
time it took to eat, what kind of meal ie: breakfast, snack, my vitamins,
water consumption and exercise. I thought that the logging was nuts and I
felt that I had researched the surgery enough and that I should have it
ASAP, better if sooner. Boy, did I learn a lot about myself. It is not easy
to undo in my case almost 50 years of bad eating habits and learning to eat
SLOWLY. That is one thing that I have not completely mastered yet along
with grazing and caving into head hunger. The logging helped me eat 3 meals
and 3 snacks a day which I am now doing post op and will do for the rest of
my life. It taught me to be conscious of eating protein at my meals and not
junk. I can honestly say that I have only had something to eat that has
been fried once since surgery. And my cholesterol is proof of it, I went
from 223 last year to 109 just 1 1/2 weeks ago. My bad cholesterol is not
off mark too far either, just under 10 points of the good range. So,
whatever your doctor's requirements are before surgery like yours wants you
in a WLS program, go for it because it will help you in the long run. Good
luck.
