Question:
All of a sudden, I am HUNGRY

For the first time since surgery 3.5 months ago, today I feel so hungry! I have had a protien shake, a protien bar (which I do not usually have) a few almonds about 3:00 and just now some boiled shrimp and a string cheese, and I still feel hungry. This is so not like me at all. I am on the pill for the first month and just now having my cycle. I usually can eat a bit more around "that time" but this seems ridiculous to me! I've still totalled around 800 calories today and don't plan to have anything else to eat today, but does anyone else have the occasional "hungry" day this early on? — Happy I. You are lucky you didn't feel hunger until 3 months out. The hunger returns at different places for different people. I am so hungry at 7 months, I could eat a horse. Some days i have to make myself eat. I began to feel hunger very early out. On the good side, it doesn't take but a bite or two to fill me up.

I only eat 3 meals a day, as a rule. when I do feel hungry I ask myself is it an abdominal empty feeling or old habit of eating/snacking mental kind of hunger. I've been told by my Dr. I'm not drinking enough liquids between meals, when this occurs. PAM

I definitely have hungry days too. It's ver disarming! I have some turkey pepperoni and I count out 17 pieces (80 calories) and munch on those when I have those hungery spells. I choose pepperoni because it's so spicey that I seldom want more than my alloted 17 pieces. 10 months post op and minus 189 lbs

I've had those days too and I'm about 3 months out. There are days when I seem to eat constantly and then there are days when I'm not hungry at all and have to remind myself to eat. THAT's a first! It sounds like you are at least eating sensibly, and that's what matters most. I've found that as long as I continue with my protein and fluids and make sure I'm exercising, I can control my appetite. Exercising in particular does it for me.

I don't really think that it is that uncommon, usually you also may be able to eat more all of the sudden then it seemed you could eat before according to the papers my surgeon gives out.

I am 20 months post-op and I have days when I can't get enough to eat (or so it seems) and others when I don't want to eat at all. I think this is perfectly normal - and actually, you haven't had that much to eat. My surgeon made me promise him (at 10 weeks post-op) that I would get at least 1000 calories a day and he preferred 1200. If you don't eat enough, you will go into starvation mode where your body tries to hold on to every possible calorie. Remember, too, that protein shakes go right through your pouch and really don't help prevent hunger - they promote healthy muscle and weight loss.

Hey Lisa, this is a fairly common issue. I'm 6 months post op and some days I can't get enough to eat, others I won't eat at all. Don't be alarmed...-101 lbs...Nea

I'm 6 months out and sometimes I feel like I never had the surgery and other time I'm very sure of it. What works for me is to drink first and if I'm still hungery after a half hour of a good long drink of water, then I'll eat.
What I've discovered is that we often mistake thirst for hunger. When I don't have time to eat or just not in the mood to eat.. I'll fill up on water and keep going until I have the time or the inkling.
Take Care, Be Well, Be Happy!

If thats all I ate in a day I'd be starving too...where is the "filler" foods? Protein shakes go right thru you, and some shrimp and cheese and almonds..please, how bout some real food? Then you won't feel so hungry. Try eating every few hours, mostly protein based, small amounts of food. You won't be hungry then.

TRy drinking a big glass of water. then wait for about 30 minutes. If you are still hungry then eat. I thought that was crazy but it helped me. ALso try eating something with more protein in it. Protein drink don't last long. try some cheddar cheese or protein bar. Don't worry! We all can eat more sometimes and then eat like a bird the next. it is normal.
